i would like to atleast edit mods enough to increase wor/tranport speeds and capacities all i have on my computer is the latest giants editor and no real clue how to use it

your talking about script editing. All you need for that is notepad but I highly recommend you get notepad ++.

Yup as mention above that would be script editing.   So I too recommend to get notepad++ as it is free to use and very nice.   Basically all you are doing is editing a text document and is very easy to do.  Something all new modders should start out on and work up from
