Animals rendered in game
« on: May 03, 2017, 01:54:42 AM »
I have 16 sheep in a field but only see 9 what or how does one see all the cattle, sheep, or pigs, in a given pasture?  Is this controlled by the size of field? Map design or video setting in game? Goggled it but cant seems to find a answer. Maps I'm using is NW Texas and dunard farm.

Thanks Nick

There is a limitation on the number of animals that the game renders.  If you have for example 100 pigs in the standard pig area they wont have alot of room to move around.  If you have 500 pigs in the same area they will be packed in there tighter than sections of bacon.  The game will only display a portion if the # of animals you have up to a point and then it will not render any more.  The most I have seen is maybe 25 or 30.  It would be neat to be able to see a  large number of cows for example on NW Texas because the pasture area is so large.  Im about to put in 300 or so head on that map but I don't expect to see any more than 20 or so at any given moment.

In FS 2015 you could specify how many animals showed up, but the more you had, the bigger the framerate was hit. If I remember correctly, you set that number somewhere in the navmesh area in GE, or at least in the animal's section inside of the animalHusbandry branch in the scenegraph. I have no idea if it's still that way in 17 as I haven't gone there yet.

If I were to guess, I would say it can be adjusted in the AnimalHusbandry.xml which we don't have access to AFAIK.  Can't imagine though it would be a good idea to up it very much as it would have to be a big hit on performance.

Yes, when creating the nav mesh there was a parameter:
maxVisableEntities type: integer value:#
I tried creating a user attribute for that in FS17 though and it has no effect so I guess that feature was removed.
